i'm in favour of getting it right, using as few changes as possible ;-)

consistent naming for fields with the same semantics is a fine thing.
we have (had)? a golden opportunity to get both presence and chat
consistent. given the releases of eTiks, aquatik and sticker using
draft formats, this opportunity might be over now, but ... ?

yep.

except that we're talking about separating the location and the name
in the presence spec. no one has proposed that for ticker (yet).
i don't want to force ticker users to supply a location (although the
convention i suggested for constructing presence displayed names from
Location and User-Alias would probably work fine ...)

where "real" means something that can be tracked to your real self,
no. but presence does have the "unique" requirement for userID.
i would be extremely dubious of any requirement for a traceable
identity.
