What he said: I agree with David's observations and suggested extensions
except that, like Martin, I'd much prefer that the existing "User" field be
kept as the User ID for backwards compatibility (while I wholeheartedly
agree with getting field names right to start with, once they're "out there"
I say live with them except where the pain of changing is less than having
to use the protocol).
Using your email address as the ID might be a bit controversial due to
possible use by spammers, but as long as you can change it, it shouldn't be
a real issue, and it is the only really safe default.
